The Geox brand was founded by Mario Moretti Polegato, who came up with the idea for the “breathing shoe” about 25 years ago during a trip to Reno, Nevada. He devised a revolutionary solution to allow his feet to breathe by piercing the rubber soles of his shoes. Upon his return, he developed and patented this technology, creating the first “breathing shoe.”

Initially, he offered his invention to other footwear companies without success, so he started manufacturing shoes independently, beginning with a range of kids’ shoes. The brand’s name, Geox, is a combination of “Geo,” the Greek word for earth, and “X,” symbolizing advanced technologies developed in Italian laboratories.
